As her name suggests, the 248 Explorer is just right for day-long and weekend coastal expeditions. In line with modern composite construction techniques, the house is built of a strong foam core sandwiched between layers of fiberglass. Mounted on the solid fiberglass 248 hull, the light structure above the gunwales enhances the hull s inherent stability. Is a 150 enough for this spacious, comfortable boat? Consider a recorded cruising speed of 25.9 mph burning 6.2 gallons per hour. Try to find a comparably-equipped 24-footer with numbers like those! Price listed is for the base unit. Cushioned helm and companion pedestal swivel come standard with this boat model and are comfortable and provide an excellent view over the bow. Front opening windows easily defog your windshield or let a nice breeze in, along with the sliding side windows. A popular option is to replace the companion helm seat with the L-shaped settee, which adds additional seating, as well as a sink and small countertop. This feature is a great place for food preparation and to display snacks and drinks and really broadens the fun factor of the aft deck. Through a weather-tight hatch is the v-berth cabin (filler panel with cushion optional), which also offers a porta-potty with a standard pump out (permanent potty with macerator and holding tank optional), and hanging locker. Teak storage trays along the walls and teak flooring are nice, homey touches. Four cabin ports with opening glass and screens provide ambient comfort with a gentle cross breeze. The 248 Explorer delivers a classically styled hard cabin and pilothouse with sliding windows. For dockside entertaining, fishing trips, or overnight excursions, she definitely is up to the task.

 On Deck:
The recommended 150-hp outboard can hang on the transom, but an optional transom bracket maximizes cockpit space and quiet operation. The bracket also allows space for an optional transom door and a bench seat. And with a boarding ladder, it becomes a swim platform. The self-bailing liner with scuppers also has in-floor storage for bulky items like nets, bumpers and rope. You can easily upgrade the floor storage into an insulated fish box with a gulper pump. Two flush-mounted fishing rod holders come standard with the Explorer, as well as inspections deck plates. The cockpit is easily roomy enough for setting up folding chairs and hosting a small gathering or for taking a few friends out on a day of fishing or for whatever adventure you desire.
